5 Benefits of Liberty Safe Hardened Steel Plates

  • 2 min read
Liberty gun safes are constructed from a single sheet of heavy-duty steel. And depending on the model you choose, a one or a 1½" thick composite door is almost virtually impossible to pry open with most common tools. Both these security features make it extremely difficult to break into a Liberty safe.

But you never know if you’re going to encounter really determined burglars who don’t know when to quit. They may try their darndest to drill into your safe’s lock and locking mechanism. That’s why Liberty takes the added step of adding hardplate lock protectors that will foil even the most determined thief.

What is Hardplate Steel?

Hardplate is steel that has been processed before going through a special heating process to transform it into an even tougher and more durable piece of steel. When used as a lock protector in a Liberty safe, it is placed in front of the lock to protect it from being drilled or punched. It is so hard it resists drilling or punching from both manual and power tools.

Liberty Safe uses two different types of hardplate lock protectors:

  1. Triple-layered steel hardplate in our Centurion, USA, 1776, Colonial and Franklin models
  2. Ball-bearing hardplate in our Lincoln, Classic Select, National Magnum and Presidential models, which contains numerous steel ball bearings encased within hardplate

Benefits of Liberty’s Hardplate Lock Protectors

Liberty’s anti-drill hardplates provide five benefits for preventing burglars from getting inside your safe.

The triple-layered hardplate…

  1. Shakes and chews up drill bits when someone attempts to drill through it.
  2. Second layer of steel couldn’t be penetrated when UL tested for security
  3. Is one of the best they have tested, according to UL (Underwriters Laboratories)

The ball-bearing hardplate…

  1. Snaps drill bits when they hit the hardplate steel
  2. Snaps or causes drill bits to continually spin when hitting one of the many ball bearings
